I did a session on <a title=\"Expressive Art Experience\" href=\"http:\/\/www.daynajcollins.com\/curele\/2014\/12\/11\/expressive-art-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\">creating art dolls<\/a> last December, and this month I offered three sessions of visual journaling.<\/p>\n<p>I provided all the materials for the ladies to make a simple journal and each week they jumped in fearlessly. Many of the women were undergoing chemo and they shared that for the hour and a half they forgot about their treatment and just had fun.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daynajcollins.com\/curele\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Visual-Journaling-Class-Week-2-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2945 \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their pages were beautiful, some completed, most just backgrounds waiting for words and images to be added.<\/p>\n<p><a One woman confided she planned to add pockets and was going to insert the messages she received from friends as she went through chemo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daynajcollins.com\/curele\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Visual-Journaling-Class-Week-3-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2949 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daynajcollins.com\/curele\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Visual-Journaling-Class-Week-3-3-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Visual Journaling Class Week 3 (3)\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daynajcollins.com\/curele\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Visual-Journaling-Class-Week-3-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2948 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daynajcollins.com\/curele\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Visual-Journaling-Class-Week-3-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Visual Journaling Class Week 3 (2)\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the participants wrote me the sweetest note after the last class and with her permission I&#8217;ll share it here as it sums up so beautifully what the experience was like for her:<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><em>My observation was that this offering certainly has a healing place in the lives of \u2013 well anyone who needs healing. It is in the process \u2013 not necessarily the art and certainly not the finished product, but the individual elements in combination \u2013 side by side with people sharing a bit of their life even through illness and disease.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><em>It has purpose, and I suppose gives us permission \u00a0to \u2018let go, and treat ourselves\u2019 as the time flew by without a thought other than what color to use, where to put it.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><em>The open format you offered covered many art forms and medium \u2013 a great introduction, or experience for all levels to both find comfort and step out of that familiar place.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><em>\u00a0I have begun a journal project at home using felt, and fine paper.
